I bought this SGI o2 missing a few parts, but in good physical condition for pretty cheap.
but I new there would be much work to do. I hit up my favorite sgi newsgroups (comp.sys.sgi.hardware, & .admin) and solicited for help seeing as my o2's processor had been pulled, but the rest of the processor daughterboard was still there. I ended up buying a R5000 180mhz module with 512k secondary cache (180sc). I also purchased 256mb of ram from kingston, pictured here above a normal stick of x86 pc100 ram. ![]() Now all I needed was a hard drive. This thing takes 80-pin SCA (Single Connector Attachment) Hard drives, but all I could find in SCA drives were either too small (4gig-ish) and too expensive. I opted instead to get a larger half height drive for MUCH cheaper. I picked up two 9.1gb drives for $50 ![]() Only problem is that the o2's can't physically fit half height drives. There is room in back to hold 2 normal sized hard drives on sleds, but not enough room to sqeeze a half height (which is about twice as high as a regular drive). My eyes lit up with mischeif and I went to modding. What follows is a pictoral of dissasembling the o2, if you want to skip this, click HERE Otherwise click "Next Page" ![]() |
