I picked this case up at the local university salvage for 10 bucks. It was an old beige (starting to yellow) Quantex Server. By server I mean 120mhz of pure power. I asked the guy if I could just have the case and the front bezels. $10 sold.

First, I cleaned and painted the front bezel with Krylon Gloss Yellow and Gloss Black.

That was pretty easy, I first painted the yellow, then taped it off and painted the black. The little control panel was pretty easy to tape off since it still had its protective plastic (like on new cell phones) on it. I also replaced the Power, Turbo, and HDD LEDs to super bright LEDs, and rewired the mhz indicator to permanantly display "532" the added processor speed (dual 266's).

I knew I wanted the top to have a hole, and for the cdrom to be see through, The motherboard I had planned for this has onboard scsi and I wanted to use a scsi cdrom drive I had because of its plain looking front bezel (good for stealth painting).

I wish I had at least one in-progress shot, but I don't. So suck it in and take it like a man, here's a shot of the drive once I had dremeled it out, painted it yellow and glued a thin plate of plexi under it.

I was putting an ATX mobo in this old AT case, and that meant I needed an access panel for all those ATX goodies like ps/2 ports and serial, I took to it with the dremel and an angle grinder until my backplate snapped in just right.

Its gotta have both side and top windows, I went with a design based loosley on what the cdrom already looked like. At first it was supposed to be just one large triangle, but inspiration took in mid-cut and I marked out a new smaller triangle to make a kind of rectange with a strut across. I liked the outcome.

I used a quarter to trace out the corners, and used a dremel to cut it out and smooth it out a little bit, the scratches are the result of me trying to use the dremel to sand it down. I ended up doing it the hard way with some 100 and 320 grit sandpaper.
